On 28 July 2026, as part of the World Mangrove Day celebration, Conservation International Timor-Leste (CI-TL) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Forestry (MALFF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Bee-Malae, Sanirin, Bobonaro.
The MoU was signed by CI-TL Country Director, Manuel Mendes and the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Forestry, Marcos da Cruz, it aims to strengthen collaboration between the two parties to promote biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration, and sustainable natural resource management, including coastal and marine ecosystems, mangroves, wetlands, forests, and watersheds.
CI-TL Country Director, Manuel Mendes, highlighted that one of the objectives of the MoU is to mobilize external funding to support development initiatives in Timor-Leste.
The partnership will also support scientific research, biodiversity monitoring, technical capacity building, and sustainable community livelihoods, contributing to a sustainable future for both people and nature in Timor-Leste.
The MoU will remain valid for three years from its effective date, with the possibility of amendments through mutual agreement and approval by both parties.
Through this partnership, CI-TL and MALFF reaffirm their shared commitment to protecting nature, restoring ecosystems, and promoting sustainable natural resource management for the benefit of communities and a sustainable future for Timor-Leste.
