Philanthropy Asia Alliance Observes Environmental Restoration Efforts at RESTORE Site in Ulmera
On Sunday (24/05), a group from the Philanthropy Asia Alliance visited the RESTORE project site in Ulmera, Tibar, Liquiçá Municipality, to observe ongoing environmental restoration work implemented by Conservation International Timor-Leste through the RESTORE Project.

During the visit, the delegation learned about community-led efforts to restore degraded land, improve biodiversity, and strengthen climate resilience in the area. Local community members also presented their work in preparing seedlings, managing nurseries, and caring for young plants to support long-term reforestation and ecosystem restoration activities.
The visit also highlighted the important role of women in leading and supporting RESTORE activities at the community level. Women involved in the project actively contribute to nursery management, seedling preparation, environmental awareness, and sustainable livelihood initiatives, demonstrating strong leadership in both restoration and community development efforts.
Women’s representative from the community, Nelia de Jesus Correia Soares, presented information on nursery care activities to the donor delegation. She shared experiences on seedling management, nursery maintenance, and support for restoration activities, highlighting strong involvement of women and youth in environmental conservation initiatives.

Meanwhile, a representative from a women’s processing group, Mrs. Agusta Silva, presented local products to the PAA delegation, including processed seaweed jelly, traditional salt production, and local palm wine.
These initiatives show that environmental restoration can also support community livelihoods and promote women’s economic empowerment.

The visitors had the opportunity to engage directly with community groups and witness their dedication and collaboration in restoration efforts. The visit emphasized the importance of partnership and collective action in promoting sustainable conservation initiatives in Timor-Leste.
Conservation International Timor-Leste expressed appreciation for the visit and continued support toward environmental restoration and community empowerment across the country.
Together, we support community-led conservation to create a greener and more sustainable future.
