Protecting Marine Giants Through Responsible Whale-Watching Guidelines!

Whale-Watching Guidelines - English Version!

Whale-Watcing Guidlines - Tetum version!

Timor-Leste’s ocean is home to magnificent whales, dolphins, and dugongs. To protect these incredible marine mammals, Conservation International Timor-Leste (CI-TL), in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Forestry, and with support from the SOMACORE Programme, has developed the Guidelines for Interacting with Cetaceans and Dugongs in Timor-Leste.

These guidelines promote responsible and sustainable marine wildlife tourism by encouraging everyone to:

  • Keep a safe distance from marine mammals.
  • Approach slowly and observe quietly.
  • Never chase, touch, feed, or disturb marine wildlife.
  • Respect their natural behaviors and protect their habitats.

Together, we can ensure that whale watching remains a memorable experience while safeguarding our precious marine biodiversity for future generations!

See the whales. Respect their space. Protect our ocean!
